| Donna reports from yet another hilly race... |
Luckily I’d forgotten how awful this race was! You can’t really call it a run because it’s more of a test of your sense of humour and endurance than anything else and also how reckless you can be running down ridiculously steep hills with cowpats on!
I managed to persuade Fergy from Truro Running Club to drag himself and Garry (ECH) along to this one, Fergy wanted to do Ivybridge Beacon but Garry and I agreed that since the water crossing had been removed it wouldn’t be as much fun?!!?
We arrived early (again!) and registered then went off for a walk to kill some time and walk the dog.
10.30 came and we were off, by 0.91miles we were reduced to a slow walk as the first of the hills was in front of us. 9.43 for mile 1! Bit quicker for the next 2 then two 10 min miles in the middle of other very slow ones and a 6.53 downhill road bit to finish! This year there were plenty of marshals so no one got lost as they did last year. There were probably about 8 or 10 very steep off road, longish climbs, most of them completely un-runnable to the point where you are on your hands and knees grabbing whatever you can to pull yourself up, 4 or 5 road hills, only had to walk half a one of those and the same amount of downhills, two of those I had to walk sideways down! If I could learn to run downhill, I could’ve won that race but had to settle for 2nd ‘coz I just aint brave enough!’
Garry beat me (i’ll get you on the road!) and I had to beat Fergy as I only let him beat me once before, can’t make a habit of it! They both said it was tough and won’t be doing it again!
I am mainly writing this report so that I can read it next year and don’t make the foolish mistake of doing it again! I challenge anyone to do it and run ALL the hills, impossible!
