This Weekend's Race Previews
Exmoor Stagger, Redruth 10K...
Exmoor Stagger.

Loads of us have done this ‘Mother’ in the past.  In the last 2 years only Janet then Rory ventured to take on the 15 – 17 miles of Exmoor countryside.  The distance varies from year to year but you can bet your best pair of Walshes that it’ll be the full 17 this year.  Why?  Because at least 8 of us Carnies are doing it!
With two caravans booked for the weekend near Minehead there will be no need for getting up too early for the 3 hour drive up.  It also means that a local pub needs to be found for the Rugby World Cup Final.  A bit of pacing needs to be employed here to ensure nobody starts the race at a disadvantage!  All apart from Kev that is, who can go all-out on the finest Exmoor Ales as he’s too injured to run.  His hamstring will be the least of his problems on Sunday morning!!
The route itself involves 3300ft of climbing to Dunkery beacon, the highest point on Exmoor, and back.
Lots of hours spent pounding along the coastal path to Porthtowan and toiling up Sally’s Bottom (not that Sally!) should prove beneficial on the day.
Glyn, Hodgey, Helen T, Rory, Emma, Barrie, George and Chris H are confirmed as running and look out for the reports/comments/obituaries/MIA/KIA etc on Monday.

Redruth 10K.

Got to be one of the hardest 10K’s around if you are a PB hunter.  It starts at the cricket club and heads towards and down past Redruth School.  The nice hill up to Avers sets the tone for the race.  It’s a long drag up past Treleigh and then up Mount Ambrose.  Enjoy yourself down Sandy Lane then down to Morrish’s chip shop.
The only things getting battered after this are your heart, lungs and legs as you trudge up Buller Hill.  Then all you have to do is charge back down to the cricket club.
Usually a good Carn presence at this one, so get yourselves along there and get those yellow and blue vests out in force.
