| Barry, Carole and I set off for this toughish 7.5 mile off roader on a wet and breezy morning from Helston but with the benefit of the extra hour and a local race meant a very civilised time to get up! By the time we reached St. Agnes we did have some more rain but for the race it was just misty drizzle at times. Graham was the only other Carnie to show; he loves the course. The first section of road sorted the running order before the climbing started but there were some good sections for off road running although you had to be careful on the stony areas, as one poor chap could testify at the end with his bloodied shoulder and leg – “Looks worse than it is!” he grinned!
Coming back from Chapel Porth on the zig-zag climb the legs started to complain and I did my Roy W.S. impression with the run/walk method. Once at the top I was able to push on for the final 2 miles of tracks and road back to the finish at the football club. I finished 35th which sounds good (unheard of for me!) but there were only 87 in the race. Graham and Barry followed a few minutes later and although Carole found it tough she was delighted to knock 2 minutes off last year’s time.
Pete D. 65.55
Graham P. 69.50 (est – forgot to switch watch on until into the race!)
Barry D. 73.24
Carole D. 93.12
