Chris B and Steve M report as George leads home the 18 lucky Carnies...
In what turned out to be a rout for CAC (most other clubs probably wondered why they'd bothered to turn up!), we managed to get eighteen of our runners to finish the race and notch up some more GP points.  Many had missed the boat when the race sold out all its entries just after Christmas.  However, a few managed to get an entry as there were some drop outs in the weeks leading up to the race.

Weather conditions were wet and windy and maybe that was the reason that only 374 of the 400 entered runners took part on the day.  Even our club photographer couldn't be ar**d with getting a soaking!

George Williams was our first runner home and managed to crack 40 minutes by keeping his tongue in his mouth for once and reducing the wind resistance that has caused him to run so slow in previous years!

Another top race well organised by HRR and congratulations to them for managing to edge CAC 'C' teams out of 3rd place in the team races.

How was it for you?:

Chris 'Big-Boy' Beresford.   "The day started bright and warm with a gentle breeze, then the alarm went and I awoke to torrential downpours and gale force winds, Thanks for the entry Rory did you check the forecast before you passed it on.

Driving down the wipers were on max and the car was weaving worse than normal.

The car parking was free as advertised and the community bus was waiting to ferry us to the start, a very welcome sight to the day. The attendants at this stage were struggling to stay on their feet. Wind not alchohol.

Registration was quick and efficient due to the bigger teams block entering and no on the day entries.

Not too many people looking forward to the day as conditions were dire, however off we trotted to the start and conditions seemed better, start time was the best weather so far, then we were off, a long downhill start gradually thinning out over the first mile or so, then under a bridge and the full wind hit us, very cold and strong, still able to progress quite well tucking the first mile in in good time. Conditions on the route were not too bad as it is reasonably sheltered in the lanes. It is a reasonable course described by some as undulating but no major problems as Cornish races go. Occasional open areas remind us of the conditions but not too bad, a quick shower at the 30 minute point was not too unwelcome and the long draw up to the finish saw most people happy to finish. Bags were quickly distributed and the hall a welcome rest. The community bus was back on ferrying weary runners the 10 Mins (I think not) back to the cars in the worsening conditions.

All in all a good course well marshalled and weather not as bad as I had expected."

A top report from Steve Marks:

"Wendy and I arrived at Mounts Bay Park and Ride very early (the first) and were driven to Mounts Bay Terminal One. Alas, there was no check in desk for Carn Coconut Airways Runners. CAC, the flagship and Hayle of course along with SunOffal had their own check in desks and accompanying baggage handlers. Our check in was with budget clubs and the odd Tiger Moth enthusiast and Kite flyer.
Did manage a couple of Duty free pees though.
As we gathered humbly in our little corner we realised we weren't exactly mob handed for this one. I think you are one of the ladies scorers today I told Wendy. If no-one else turns up you'll be one of the mens she replied. Thank goodness when I spied Mike Mack and Dave Mounter. Pressure off. Juliet, Ceri and Micky refused to pay the outrageous sums required to buy petrol to drive there and decided to Shanks it down. Peter Drew arrived with an entry that had had more owners than Auto Traders bargain buy.
Off we went to the start and gathered in midfield anonymity. A gun went off. No Crow fell out of the sky so we all decided to leg it.
Looking at the pics, we cut quite a dash as we crossed the line rolling down the hill like a yellow car wash machine, knowing the looks would be somewhat different on the finish line. The anticipated bad weather did hold off (until Lidls car park on the way back) and you could spit without risk of it flying 10 yards ahead or baptising five runners behind.
Kept checking the watch every mile. You know the daft games. If the next runner who goes past is a Trotter, I'll check my watch. If its a NRR, I'll wait till 5 miles.
They all came and went and realised a chance of a PB. Up the hill, grin (pronounced grimace) as you go past a couple of combatants, receive the cheers of the Carn Fuel Protest Group and hit the line.
grab your top and get back to welcome in Barry, Wendy and then the rest of the team. Carole D gets some stick for her hair (wild horses wouldn't drag it from me that it was Micky).
I don't know how many times Wendy and Judy will count for the ladies team this year but its on your records now. Crop tops next.
Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well organised, well marshalled and a different goody bag contents.
Get those An Resek entries in now. We want our own check in desk."
