| Since Steve Phillips finished the 44 mile Classic Quarter back in June, it's been a painful return to running. He was off running for a month due to one of his calf muscles ballooning to twice the size of the other!!
This meant he had to miss the next race in the series, the 55 mile Classic Cliffs race in July.
With his month of being the Elephant Man ("i am not an animal, i am a human being"!) over, he made a cautious return at the Indian Queens Half Marathon. Finishing pain-free, he was all set for the Classic Crossings on Saturday.
Starting from the historic maritime harbour at Plymouth, the course weaved its way eastwards along the South West Coast Path. Stunning views, interesting rock features, idyllic coves, sandy beaches and beautiful esturaries were all part of the course.
There were three stretches of water that Steve needed to cross en-route offering him the perfect opportunity to cool off. The Yealm Estuary, the Erme Estuary and the Avon Esturary were all cold enough to prevent that troublesome calf from swelling again!!!
This time Steve was well prepared and experience gained in the 'Quarter' stood him in good stead.
The final stretch of the course brought him to the spectacular Salcombe Estuary.
After approximately 7 hours and 45 minutes of running, wading and swimming Steve crossed the finish line in Salcombe and raring to go for his next Ultra challenge where ever that may be!!!!
Well Done, Steve!
