| The first-ever Jurassic Coast 10k was run in 2005. I remember it well - a scorching Bank Holiday, England on the brink of Ashes glory and the race t-shirts were bright red with a dinosaur on the back. Then in 06 & 07 carloads of Carnies on a jolly descended on Budleigh Salterton to show the vest over the red cliffs of Devon.
Carn Runners was represented again this year - Janet & Dennis had dug out their original t-shirts as the red cliffs beckoned once more. Luckily the weather was better for tackling them - cooler and overcast. Race numbers were a record 270 as we lined up for the start on Budleigh seafront.
If you've never done this race before, don't be put off by the steep cliffs - the views are stunning. The course is nearly all off road; after the coast you turn in along tracks and river paths to finish by the beach for a post-race dip in the sea.
Janet was pleased with her run and felt strong despite lack of race fitness. At 48:41 she was 20 seconds faster than at St. Levan the previous week (can't quite work that out!) Dennis (55:38) had a good run and is getting better with each race but looking to get those times down again.... watch out!
There was also a special prize from the organisers for Dennis and Janet as they are among only nine runners to have done all four of the JC races ...... long may it continue!
