Storm Force 10? Well, Blaythorne put it’s membership prices up and we decided their fees were excessive for 12 months of blocked toilets, minging facilities and a leaking roof. We compared the meerkats and Storm FC came up with the best offer to share their facilities.
So the Blaythorne 10 was dead and we needed a new name.
The name of our new HQ and the fact that for the last few years the race had taken place in Storm Force 10 conditions, the new name was easy!
Camborne School’s facilities were on offer and with a slight change to the course we were in business.
The race committee had been busy for the last six months and we must congratulate them on a job well done.
Now, back to the race. You just knew that with the new name we were not going to get golf-ball sized hailstones, driving sleet or a hurricane. The conditions this year were perfect.
We had a good number of Carnies changing in to race gear whilst the rest got into their marshalling positions etc.

Peter Kearney in fine form
Barrie got us on our way at 10.30 and I started near the back intent on a nice easy training run with Mr & Mrs Knowles.
We planned to average around 8:30 per mile and a nice leisurely start had us through the opening mile in 8:16. Unbelievably, we were still near the back and passing loads of runners who’d obviously gone off way too fast. Always happens. Why do you always do that?
Soon we were up with ‘Jensen’ Harvey and Andy Millward (pictured below with marshals Mark and Chris).

I was in discomfort and needed to 'water my horse'. Knowing I’d have some catching up to do, I chose a field just before the downhill to Calloose.
Getting back onto the road I heard Sam Perkin and his Mighty Bay boys giving me some abuse. Leaving them a hooting and a hollering behind, I needed to catch my little group back up.

Kung Fu Karen - our first Carn lady finisher
I caught Nigel Tomlinson on the climb towards Leedstown and he was rue-ing his festive excesses!
By the top, I’d caught ‘Jensen’ by using my Kers button and then Andy and finally those pesky Knowlsey’s.
We took the new Leedstown by-pass track (the T25) and soon we were on the way back towards Praze.
No sign of anymore Carnies in front so we lit up a Hamlet each and chilled out.
The marshals were giving us some good ‘encouragement’ with Les Smitham’s “C’mon you tail-enders” one of those comments that stood out!!
A nice final mile and we were ducking under the finish banner.
Some great runs there today.

Hodgey won the Vet50 category despite having a “rubbish” run! We almost detected a smile at the presentation, Chris.
Brenda was our other trophy winner in her age group. Top run, Bren!
Everyone who’s had anything to do with organising a race knows that it needs hard work and teamwork to make it a success. So here’s a massive Thank You to all those who planned today’s event and all those who gave their time up to help.
Last but not least Thanks to all you runners who came along and supported our race. ** A sum of £66.33p was raised by your kind donations for Shelterbox who are involved in helping those suffering in Haiti.
