MOUNTS BAY 10K race report

Good times down the 'Bay'...
This report is just to fill in before Marksey gets back from his 30th lap of today’s course to rack up the 180 mile training run his marathon team were doing today!

The excellent weather conditions matched the organisation as the green machine down Hayle put on another great Mounts Bay 10K.

The Carn put out some of our finest again with Hodgey back again with his new hunger for racing after winning the Vet 50 race at Storm Force three weeks back.  A Saturday morning dune session probably wasn’t the best race preparation though, Chris!

Rory was lining up as well and promising to deliver a good result. Despite a sporadic couple of months on the training front, Mark Dorrell was also giving it a go.
With Paul ‘The Saw’ Sawford, Pete K and Barrie also running we were putting out some of our best boys. Whilst never going to trouble the likes of Cornwall (Man U) AC or Newquay (Chelsea) RR, it was good to see us getting our ‘strongest’ out at the races.
The girls were there first and getting a good pre-race club spirit going as they always do. Great to see a new face as well with ‘newby’ (no, I don’t watch DorND) Jane doing her first race in Carn colours, and as it would turn out, having a fantastic run!

Ali, Denise, Barrie and Karen decided to do their warm up as a 12 mile bike ride from Praze followed by a cool down cycling home afterwards.

The race was run in perfect conditions, borne out by the fact that the course record was broken by Kev Toher of NRR.

Marksey can fill you in on the actual race itself as he probably spent all day out there in the lanes, so over to you on that one Steve!

A few facts to round off.  This race always throws up some horrific portraits of suffering runners coming up to the finish. If your photo is not on the website it’s either (a) because you wouldn’t want others to see it or (b) because the camera failed after being showered by Craig Tonkin’s snot (apparently, you were leaking from every orifice, son!).
Maybe he was just following our example after one of our runners (MD) was spotted chucking up in a hedge on the final hill.
Hodgey was most grateful to Carol G for selling him her place and the pain, torture and suffering that went with it! No pain, No gain!!

Another bonus is that the race is only a short trip from KFC at PZ, so straight down there afterwards for some healthy post race fodder!!!
