CARN RUNNERS STORM FORCE 10 ROAD RACE
22nd JANUARY 2012 – 10.30am
ENTRY FORM FOR 2012
Race Report for 2011
Cornish road running got off to a flying start on Sunday, with a record 519 athletes putting their toes to the line for the Storm Force 10 in Camborne.
The weather, for those of us back at race HQ, seemed perfect. Dry, still and not too cold, although reports from the runners soon let us know about the headwind all the way back from Leedstown!
Cornwall AC vests dominated the leader board, with winning performances by Noel Kindon (55:27) and Emma Stallard (59:53) but it was great to see almost every Cornish club represented on the day.
The competitive race spirit was replaced with the usual friendly atmosphere back at race HQ, with everyone swopping their race experiences over a mug of hot soup and the ever popular refreshments.
Thanks as ever, to the race officials, marshals and volunteers. A particular word of thanks to the youngsters from the Police Cadets and Camborne Science and Community College 6th form, who all did a fantastic job.
All in all, a good day out and we hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as we did!
How it came about….
The Blaythorne 10 was first run in 1998 with 80 to 90 runners participating, it now attracts a field over 400 runners and is the first race of the Cornish Grand Prix Road Racing Series. It is the high-light of the Carn Runners year and a lot of hard work is put into its organisation by all members. The course has a couple of inclines and one short hill, in addition there are long stretches of flat road that should enable a good chance of a fast time. Mile markers will be clearly positioned along the route, and there are 3 drink stations situated at approximately 2, 5 and 7.5 mile points and at the Finish.
The course record was set in 2004 by Stuart Hall of Tipton Harriers at 50:59
~ Change of course for 2010 ~
The race begins on the Barripper road, south of the Blaythorne Sports club and follows the road through Barripper and up to Carnhell Green towards Leedstown. A short gravel section at approximately 4.5miles before turning back towards Praze and on to Camborne. Many runners will know much of the route from the old Blaythorne 10, however, we now have a very fast finish at Camborne school. Please keep in finishing order when in finish funnel so that your position can be recorded.
