About Olivia

Olivia has been running with the club since 2008.
Her passion for running came from the need of physical exercise for good mental health. Currently the club chairman but has also done her stint as Captain. “I hope that I have inspired people to run and keep fit and healthy.”

About Steve

Meet Steve , our Club Captain!

Steve joined the club initially to connect with fellow running enthusiasts and quickly discovered the incredible benefits of group training and support. Not only did it help him improve his own running, but it also inspired him to set ambitious new goals.

Driven by this passion, Steve qualified as a UKA Leader in Running Fitness and now enjoys leading group runs on club nights, giving back to the community that helped him. While Steve loves all forms of running, exploring the trails, particularly along the coast path, is a true passion.

This year’s big challenge? The Peak District 100 mile ultramarathon in September!

About James

I have been a member since 2024 as I had a chance meeting during a summer Wednesday club run and I just asked what was going on. I joined the group the following week and I never looked back.
Since joining, I have noticed an incredible progression in my fitness levels and a real enjoyment in my running. This has also transferred to my role as a National Panel rugby referee running around a rugby pitch.
In my first season with the club, I participated in 8 of the GP series and knocked 13 minutes off my Truro half marathon time in just 12 months.
I am very much looking forward to the challenges ahead and the continued support from the Carn Runners. I also look forward to supporting my fellow runners in the running opportunities coming their way.

About Mike

I started running with a couch to 5K after the British Olympics 2012 and never looked back. Done quite a few half marathons including Cheltenham Bath Plymouth and Bideford and in the future I have a club place at the iconic London Marathon which I am training hard for having never done a full marathon before.
I find the club friendly and more importantly great advice for improving your running.
If someone wanted to get into running my recommendation would be to do Park runs I have done over 100 and always found them friendly and beneficial to improve your running

About Zoe

I first got into running by doing the Couch to 5k app with some friends from work. It definitely got me started, but I still found running really difficult on my own and knew I needed a bit more support.

That’s when I decided it was time to join a running club. Luckily, Carn Runners had a Run/Walk group, which was perfect for me. My main aim back then was simply to run 3 miles without stopping.

Fast forward three years, and I’ve not only achieved that, but this year I completed the Bath Half Marathon which is something I never imagined I’d be able to do when I first laced up my trainers.

Now, as Club Secretary, I love being part of the team that helps keep the club welcoming, organised, and supportive. Carn Runners has played a huge part in my running journey, and I’m proud to give something back.

About Kat

In 2012, after watching her friend run the London Marathon for the second time, Kat said I’m going to run the London Marathon next year – everyone who knew Kat thought she was mad and, as a total non-runner, she’d never do it. She got a charity place, started with Couch 2 5k, then followed a beginner’s training plan and completed her first marathon in 2013.

After this, Kat got the running bug and completed 35 marathons in over 11 countries and various ultra marathons. Kat says running has given her a new lease of life and keeps her grounded. Kat started running every day on Nov 1st 2016, to lose a bit of weight and has been running at least a mile outside every day since.

Kat believes if she can run anyone can. She is a Run Leader and has had various roles on the Carn Committee over the last few years including Captain and Social Secretary. Kat is also Event Director of our local parkrun at Heartlands and a Slimming World Consultant in the local area.

About Bex

I started running many years ago with my sister as she looked to be having lots of fun with all the races. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Joining Carn runners has helped me connect with a large community that helps me keep up with my running goals. They have all inspired me to do lots of bigger races that I never thought I would be capable of.

I love trail running and look forward to completing a few ultra marathons over the next few years.

About Rachel

After frequently seeing Carn runners in her local area, Rach finally plucked up the courage to join Carn Runners in 2023. Rach enjoys the positive impact running has on her mental well-being and the motivational benefits the club offers. Although Rach is not able to join the club every week, whenever she does, she feels as if she has never been away.

Rach feels honored to be the club’s welfare officer and has been working in mental health since 2022! If you ever need someone to talk to or just want to chat, don’t hesitate in reaching out to Rach.

About Janet

Jan is a seasoned runner and Ironman distance triathlete, having run in excess of 150 marathons/ultras.

As well as a coach, Jan is a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, qualified in Sports Injuries. She firmly recommends a programme of strength and conditioning and cross training to improve running performance and reduce the risk of injury.

About Janet

Janet has been with Carn Runners since 2002, which has enabled her to realise her passion for running events of many types and distances, which she still continues to do, having worn the Carn colours over 500 times. As a Carn Runner she has had the honour of representing Cornwall twice.

About Gavin

After spending years sitting behind a computer for work, I realised I needed a change. I wanted to improve my health and meet new people, so I completed Couch to 5K and joined Carn Runners in May 2024.

Since then, I’ve thrown myself into club life — enjoying the runs, the laughs, and the friendly atmosphere that makes this club feel like home.

I’ve worked in website development for over 25 years through my business, ThriveWP.com, and now I look after the club’s website and online systems, helping to keep everything running smoothly in the background.

Joining the committee has given me another way to give back. Whether I’m out on a club run or quietly working behind the scenes, I love being part of a group that encourages people to improve, enjoy their running, & feel proud of their progress.

Dennis started running over 40 years ago; he is a founder member of Carn Runners and the longest serving in the club.

During his time at Carn he has been Club Captain on more than one occasion and has been a regular Committee member. He enjoys doing races, and the atmosphere that goes with them, as well as the social side of the club.
