Meet The Runner
It has to be a nice, cold Beer, but if I am being sensible and health conscious, I would say a protein shake.
Don’t ask! I have had a few pairs now and feel like I am still trying to find “the ones”. I have had Saucony, Brooks and Hoka. My current pair are Hoka Clifton 9’s
Just come along on a Wednesday evening and see what you think! Everyone is so friendly, and we’ve got a great mix of ages and abilities—you’ll fit right in. It might feel a bit scary at first, but speaking from experience, it’s one of the best things I’ve done in a long time.
It really came down to two things: fitness and social connection. Working from home in front of a computer all day meant I wasn’t getting much exercise—and my social life had pretty much vanished between work and family commitments. I started feeling the effects of sitting for hours and knew something had to change.
Then one day, an ad for Couch to 5K popped up on my phone. I’d always told myself I couldn’t run—that my knees wouldn’t cope—even though I’d never actually tried! But something clicked, and I decided to give it a go.
Completing the Couch to 5K programme was a huge achievement. I started barely able to run for 60 seconds—and now I’ve completed a half marathon and taken part in loads of races. I’m fitter, happier, and have found a great community along the way.
After achieving my first goal—getting fitter—it was time to tackle the scarier one: becoming more social. Once I’d completed Couch to 5K and got into a regular running routine, it felt like the right time to find a running club.
I searched online for clubs near me and came across Carn Runners. I still remember my first visit—it was nerve-wracking! Joining something new can be intimidating, especially when everyone already seems to know each other. I felt a bit out of place at first, unsure how to just… talk to other adults!
But the members were fantastic. They made me feel welcome straight away, helped me pick the right group for my pace, and supported me from the start. That first nervous run turned out to be the beginning of something really positive.
t’s great being part of a group that shares the same passion for running—but even better, Carn Runners is full of genuinely supportive, friendly people. Everyone looks out for one another. I really enjoy club nights and the social events too—they’re a great way to connect and get to know each other beyond the miles.
Yes, a few now. I can’t believe I am saying that after just over a year of running! I have run the Truro Half marathon, Falmouth Mob match, Lobster Lollop, Turkey Trot, and a rainbow run for charity.
Joining Carn Runners has massively improved my running. Sure, there are still days where my legs feel like lead—but overall, running with others has made a huge difference. It’s so much easier and more motivating than going it alone.
Beyond fitness, it’s impacted my life in lots of ways. I feel healthier, more active, and more social. I’m even proud to now be part of the club committee, helping give back to the community that’s given me so much.
Hmm, that’s hard. I tend to get bored with the same route, but if I had to pick one, it would be running along the coast because I love the sea and the views.
