What would you say to someone thinking of joining?

Do it! Come along and meet us and you won’t look back. There is a wealth of running experience to tap into for the newbie runner & seasoned runners will find new friends to run and train with.

What first got you into running?

I first started running in the 1980’s up in Gosport. I joined Gosport Roadrunners in 1985 as part of a drive to get more women into running. I was a fairly speedy roadrunner in those days and ran my first London Marathon in 1989 but injured my knee soon after, moved to Cornwall in 1990 and didn’t run for the next 15 years or so, turning to cycling instead.

What made you join Carn Runners?

My knee seemed much improved and in 2006 (ish) Carn Runners started a “Couch to 10 miles” programme. It started in the October and culminated in us running the Blaythorne 10 in the January which was the precursor to our Trevithick 12k race.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the club?

I’ve always loved being a part of Carn Runners and have served in most positions on the committee in years gone by. We’re a small but very friendly club and that’s what I like about Carn. There have been ups & downs in membership over the years but I’ve made great friends & everyone is so supportive of each other. I’m loving the new members coming through and this is all good news for the future of the club.

Have you taken part in any races or events through the club?

I’ve raced the whole time I’ve been a member of the club starting with road races locally and moving on to marathons & then trail running & ultras both locally and around the country. I’ve slowed down in recent years and now run more socially, not much racing goes on these days!!

How has being part of Carn Runners impacted your running or life in general?

Being a member of Carn has brought me friends for life!

Favourite local running route or session?

Locally I mostly enjoy running on the coastpath and also closer to home on the Great Flat Lode or places like Tehidy or Penrose Woods.

Trainers of choice?

Hoka Clifton for Road. Hoka Mafate for trail.

Post-run snack or treat?

Tea & cake or a milkshake. A mid run ice cream goes down well these days too.
