Favourite post-run snack?

A nice pint of beer after club runs goes down a treat! I don’t usually eat after morning runs, as it is usually straight off to work at the hospital for me after a coffee.

Go-to Shoes

Ooooooooh now you’re talking! I do have a slight running shoe problem, that being that I cannot resist buying them! I havn’t really got a favourite pair although if I was pushed, I would have to say that Brooks would be the one. Closely followed by Asics . . . and Adidas . . . and Nike . . . and Salomon . . . and anything Chinese ๐Ÿ™‚

What would you say to someone thinking of joining?

Stop thinking about it! Just do it! On club nights there are various groups that go out, running different distances and different paces. You really will settle in to one of them and be made to feel welcome. Also no one gets left behind so you will not be running on your own. Back at base (Camborne Cricket Club) you can have a drink and treats if you want. On track nights the training and advice available is very helpful. Carn Runners will do all that they can to make your running journey an enjoyable one.

What first got you into running?

I used to run quite a lot at school and whilst in the Army during my younger years.

What made you join Carn Runners?

In November 2025 I decided to get fit again after a health scare, which involved making the decision to start running again. After reaching out to Gavin on Facebook, completing a few Parkruns and a Runna program, I felt confident enough to attend my first club run in February 2026. That was a huge step for me as like many others I imagine, I was a bit worried about running with others as part of a group.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the club?

The friendliness of all the members I have met so far. Right from my first club run and my decision to join the club straight after it, I knew I had made the right decision. Also the club kit has to be amongst the best out there!

Have you taken part in any races or events through the club?

Yes I have. I have now run my first ever 10K race (Fowey) and then followed that up with Bideford. I have also entered Totnes, Bownder, Gecko Gathering and the Turkey Trot. All due to take place later this year.

How has being part of Carn Runners impacted your running or life in general?

That decision to get fit has made a huge impact on my life. Joining Carn Runners has helped make running fun again for me. Being part of a group out doing something we all enjoy cannot be beaten really. I only wish I could get out more at the weekend with the more social runners! My cricket and other sporting commitments are getting in the way of that!

Favourite local running route or session?

I have yet to run in Tehidy or the Dunes so it has to be running around Camborne at present (even at 4.30am!). I do enjoy the track sessions because of the training provided by Steve and Janet. I decided to join Carn Brea Leisure so that I could run on the track whenever I wanted.

Trainers of choice?

Ooooooooh now you’re talking! I do have a slight running shoe problem, that being that I cannot resist buying them!
