A huge milestone was reached this weekend as Vicky and Chris took on the Newport Marathon — and not just any marathon… this was their very first 26.2 miles.
Taking on a marathon for the first time is always a massive achievement, but doing it on what felt like one of the hottest days of 2026 made it an even tougher challenge. From the early miles right through to the final stretch, this was a test of endurance, pacing and mental strength.
No Longer Marathon First-Timers
There’s something special about completing your first marathon. It’s not just about the distance — it’s everything that goes into it. The training, the early mornings, the long runs, the doubts, and then finally standing on that start line knowing you’re about to take on something big.
For Vicky and Chris, that journey led them to Newport… and they absolutely delivered.
Crossing the finish line for the first time over 26.2 miles is a moment that stays with you forever. It’s the kind of achievement that deserves to be celebrated properly — and once you’ve done it, you’ve earned the right to talk about it whenever you like!
Battling the Heat
Marathons are tough at the best of times, but add in unseasonably warm conditions and the challenge ramps up significantly.
Running in the heat requires careful pacing, good hydration and plenty of mental resilience. It’s not always about chasing times — sometimes it’s simply about getting to the finish line safely and strongly.
Vicky and Chris did exactly that.
They kept going, stayed focused and pushed through the tough moments that every marathon brings, especially in difficult conditions.
Flying the Carn Colours
It’s always fantastic to see Carn Runners members taking on big challenges and proudly representing the club. From local races to major events like the Newport Marathon, the Carn colours continue to show up everywhere.
Vicky and Chris did the club proud, showing determination, grit and a great attitude from start to finish.
A Huge Achievement
Completing a first marathon is something to be incredibly proud of — and doing it in tough conditions makes it even more impressive.
So a massive congratulations to Vicky and Chris. You’ve both joined the marathon club, taken on a huge challenge and come out the other side stronger for it.
Now go and treat yourselves, soak it all in, and don’t forget to mention it in every conversation going forward 😆💪💙💛
