Dennis and Janet were back over the Tamar once again, this time travelling to Devon for the Sibelco Cornwood 10K Challenge.
Held on Saturday 25 July, the event follows a varied route around Cornwood and Lutton, near Ivybridge. The course is run mainly on rural roads, with sections of tracks and fields adding a little variety to the challenge.
After some of the hot and humid conditions runners have experienced recently, the weather could hardly have been better. Overcast skies and a cool breeze made for near-perfect running conditions as Dennis and Janet headed out in the Carn colours.
Another Trip Across the Tamar
Dennis and Janet have become regular travellers to races throughout Devon, frequently crossing the Tamar to discover new events and revisit old favourites.
Their latest outing took them into the quiet countryside around Cornwood, where the peaceful rural lanes offered a very different experience from a busy town or city race.
With its mixture of road and off-road sections, the Cornwood Challenge gave runners plenty to think about. The tracks and fields added variety underfoot, while the winding country lanes provided an attractive setting for the summer 10K.
It was another opportunity for Dennis and Janet to enjoy a race together while proudly representing Carn Runners beyond Cornwall.
Perfect Weather for Running
Summer racing can often mean dealing with bright sunshine, high temperatures and difficult conditions. On this occasion, however, the cloud cover and cooling breeze were very welcome.
The more comfortable weather allowed runners to concentrate on the course and enjoy their surroundings without battling the intense heat that has accompanied several recent events.
While a 10K is always a challenge when racing at your chosen effort, good conditions can make a significant difference. The quieter lanes and cooler air created an ideal setting for another enjoyable morning of running.
Flying the Carn Colours in Devon
It is always good to see Carn Runners appearing at events outside Cornwall.
Our members regularly travel throughout the South West and further afield, bringing the yellow and blue to races of every distance and style. From local road races and trail events to marathons and ultras, there always seems to be a Carn vest somewhere on the start line.
Dennis and Janet continue to be brilliant examples of that adventurous club spirit. They are often found exploring races across Devon, supporting events and enjoying everything the regional running calendar has to offer.
The Cornwood Challenge was another event to add to their growing list of trips over the border.
Another Race Completed
There were no dramatic weather battles or unexpected race-day adventures to report this time—just two Carn Runners enjoying a well-organised summer event in excellent running conditions.
Sometimes, that is exactly what makes for a great race.
Quiet lanes, varied terrain, a cool breeze and good company provided the ingredients for an enjoyable morning near Ivybridge.
A big well done to Dennis and Janet for completing the Cornwood Challenge and representing Carn Runners once again.
