Five Carn Runners crossed the Tamar on Sunday 13 September to take on the tough Storm the Fort 10K in Plymouth.
Gavin, Sarah, Dennis, Janet and Sally represented the club at the multi-terrain race, which challenged runners with two demanding laps before a memorable finish at Woodland Fort.
There was plenty for the Carn team to celebrate, with Dennis taking first place in his age category and Sarah collecting one of the day’s more unusual prizes.
A testing two-lap course
Organised by Storm Plymouth, Storm the Fort is a 10K multi-terrain event around Woodland Park and the surrounding area in Crownhill.
The varied course combines grass, wooded paths and quiet roads, giving runners plenty of changes in terrain to manage. With the route completed twice, everyone also had the mental challenge of heading back out for another lap before reaching the finish at the historic fort.
It was certainly no straightforward road 10K, but Gavin, Sarah, Dennis, Janet and Sally all stepped up to the challenge and ensured that Carn colours were well represented in Plymouth.
Another age-category victory for Dennis
Dennis continued his excellent run of racing form by securing first place in his age category.
It is another impressive result in a season that has already included several strong performances away from Cornwall. His latest success follows an earlier podium finish at the Otter Rail and River Run, demonstrating his consistency across a variety of testing courses.
Storm the Fort’s mixture of surfaces and repeated lap made this a particularly well-earned category win. Congratulations to Dennis on adding another excellent result to his growing collection.
Sarah’s support for the marshals earns a prize
Sarah also came away with a prize, although this one was not decided by the finishing clock.
She received the spot prize for complimenting the marshals the most while making her way around the course. It was a fitting reward for bringing plenty of positivity to a challenging race and recognising the volunteers stationed along the route.
Marshals play an essential part in making race days safe, welcoming and enjoyable. Sarah’s prize added a fun extra moment to the day while highlighting the value of offering a few encouraging words in return.
A great day in Plymouth
The five Carn runners reported a great, well-organised race day from Storm Plymouth. From the varied two-lap route to the support around the course, the event provided a rewarding away trip and another opportunity to fly the Carn flag beyond Cornwall.
It also continued a busy year of Plymouth adventures for club members, following the Sportiva Plymouth Festival Weekend earlier in the season.
