There is more than one kind of Wednesday night on our autumn calendar. Between now and Christmas, Carn Runners has track sessions, a choice of mapped routes around Camborne and Redruth, an AGM and awards night, and a festive Strava art run planned. If you are deciding when to come along—or which distance to choose—here is a guide to what is coming up.
Our Run Schedule is the place to see the full programme and any updates before you set off. Wednesday runs normally meet at Camborne Cricket Club at 6.30pm, ready to run at 6.45pm, but not every club night follows the usual format or meeting arrangement. In particular, if you are coming to a track night for the first time, ask us where to meet rather than assuming it starts at the cricket club.
October: track, then two route-choice nights
Wednesday 14 October is listed as track. It is a change from choosing a road route and heading off with a pace group. The schedule does not set out that evening’s session or meeting point, so get in touch if you need those details before attending. Curious about the kind of training we have done previously? Our earlier track sessions give a flavour of club track nights, rather than a workout plan for this particular date.
On 21 October, the scheduled Illogan/Tolgus run gives you four mapped distances: 4.0, 4.8, 5.5 and 7.6 miles. That is a useful spread if you want to stay with a shorter group or have time for more miles. You can open the 4.0-mile map or the 7.6-mile map now; the intermediate options are linked from the Run Schedule.
The following Wednesday, 28 October, moves to Pengegon/Beacon, with 5.0, 6.0 and 7.1-mile choices. If you are new to that part of the programme, take a look at the 5.0-mile Pengegon/Beacon route before the night. A route map helps you see where a run goes, while the group and pace that suit you can be discussed when you arrive.
November: more routes, another track night and the AGM
There are two mapped Wednesday runs at the start of November. 4 November is Tolvaddon/Barncoose, with options of 4.8, 6.0 and 7.1 miles. On 11 November, the Penponds/Baripper choices are 5.1, 6.1 and 7.4 miles. You do not have to choose the longest route to make the most of club night: pick a distance that fits your evening and talk to a run leader about the group you would like to join.
18 November is the second track night shown on the current schedule. Then 25 November is marked as our AGM and Awards Night. If you normally glance at the calendar only for mileage, make a note of that change of focus: club nights also give us a chance to come together away from an ordinary group run. The schedule does not provide further arrangements for the AGM, so use the Contact page if you have a question about attending.
December: familiar routes and a festive change
Illogan/Tolgus returns on 2 December, again with 4.0, 4.8, 5.5 and 7.6-mile routes. On 9 December, Beacon/Troon has 5.2, 6.0 and 7.3-mile options. The scheduled 16 December activity is a Strava Art Xmas Run, while 23 December is currently marked TBA. Those last two dates are good examples of why the live schedule matters more than assuming every Wednesday will be a conventional route night.
The schedule also reminds runners to bring clothing suited to the conditions, including visibility kit and a headtorch where appropriate. It says the club has a small selection of headtorches available to borrow on a nightly basis. For more on running together on local roads and paths, see our guide to sharing Cornwall’s lanes and paths.
Joining us for the first time?
New runners aged 16 and over can try up to four club nights free; our Membership Application page explains the trial nights and how to join afterwards. We have groups for different paces, including a run/walk option. You can also browse Club News to see what members have been doing beyond the Wednesday schedule.
Start with the latest Run Schedule, choose a night that appeals to you, and let us know you are coming. For questions about a route, a track meeting point or your first visit, email hello@carnrunners.co.uk. We would be pleased to welcome you.
