Favourite post-run snack?

On a winter morning it has to be a guilt free bacon sandwich.
On a club night, it has to be the chilled pint in the clubhouse after the run.

Go-to Shoes

I have had quite a few over the years but currently have different Brooks for both road and trail but I am also a fan of Saucony for road.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining?

Don’t overthink it, just come along and give us a try. You don’t have to be fast or experienced. Many people can be put off because they think a running club will be too serious. There is nothing serious about Carn Runners!

What first got you into running?

I was rapidly approaching 40 and needed to change my lifestyle if I wanted to see 50 so I gave up smoking and took up running.

What made you join Carn Runners?

I was relatively new to Cornwall so didn’t know many people. I wanted to join a club to meet like minded people.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the club?

The club has given me a lot. Friends, running buddies, training advice, challenge….the lists goes on. It is a big part of my life these days. I think the biggest thing is always having someone to run with, even on those cold and wet winter days when it would be so easy to stay at home in the warm and dry.

Have you taken part in any races or events through the club?

Yes I have done quite a few of the local races although I am not a huge fan of shorter road races. When I came to the club I had run the London Marathon twice before and genuinely believed that was my limit but within 2 months I had been convinced to sign up to the Classic Quarter 44 mile coastal path run. This opened up a whole new world of running to me and have now completed quite a few ultra marathons of varying distances up to 100 miles.

How has being part of Carn Runners impacted your running or life in general?

Wednesday nights are strictly reserved for club for a start. It has given me a social group and invaluable running advice when I need it. It is a really important part of my life.

Favourite local running route or session?

From my home I can access so many great trails but I love the Camborne,Redruth and Pool Skyline route around the great flat lode trail.
Apart from that I think the coast path is my spiritual home. Early on a spring morning watching the sun rise as you run along path is great for the soul.

Trainers of choice?

I have had quite a few over the years but currently have different Brooks for both road and trail but I am also a fan of Saucony for road.
