What to Expect at Your First Club Run
Taking the plunge and turning up to your first running club session can feel a bit daunting — but at Carn Runners, we pride ourselves on being welcoming, supportive, and fun. Whether you’re brand new to running or have years of races behind you, there’s a place for you here.
All that is required is that you have at least done some running or Couch to 5 K and can run at least 3 miles. We also have a run-walk group if you are still transitioning from couch to 5 K to continuous running.
If you’ve been thinking of joining us, here’s exactly what to expect when you come along to your first club run.
A Warm Welcome
From the moment you arrive, you’ll be greeted by friendly faces. We always make sure new runners are introduced, and you’ll never be left on your own. Plenty of members remember their own “first night nerves”, so you’ll quickly feel part of the group.
Varied Routes and Paces
Carn Runners sessions cover everything from gentle social runs through woodland and lanes, to more structured sessions that help build speed, stamina and confidence. Don’t worry about being “too slow” — we regroup often and make sure everyone finishes together. It’s all about the miles, not the stopwatch.
Guidance and Support
Our run leaders and experienced members are always on hand to answer questions, offer advice, and help you find the right pace group. If you’re building up fitness or returning from injury, we’ll help you settle into a rhythm that works for you.
A Mix of Terrains
Training runs might take you through Tehidy Woods, local mining trails, coastal paths, or Cornish lanes — giving you variety and showing you the very best of our local routes. You’ll soon discover places to run that you never knew existed!
The Social Side
A huge part of Carn Runners is the social element. After training sessions, races, or Sunday runs, there’s often a stop for coffee, cake, or even the odd BBQ or club social evening. Many of our members join not only to get fitter, but also to find friends and a support network.
What to Bring
All you really need is:
- Comfortable running shoes
- Weather-appropriate kit
- A smile and a willingness to join in
We’ll take care of the rest.
So if you’re wondering whether to give it a go — come along!
Your first few sessions are free, with no pressure to join straight away. We’re confident that once you experience the welcoming atmosphere, supportive members, and the buzz of running together, you’ll want to be part of it.
Carn Runners isn’t just a running club — it’s a community.
