Carn Runners were back tackling one of Cornwall’s most demanding races as a group headed to the Bodmin Beast (Half) — a notoriously tough 14.5-mile “long half marathon” that lives up to its name.

With relentless hills, rugged terrain and very little in the way of easy miles, the Bodmin Beast is not your typical half marathon. It’s a race that demands strength, patience and determination from start to finish — making it an even bigger achievement for those taking it on for the first time.

First Half Marathon… on One of the Toughest Courses

A massive congratulations goes to Elena and Sally, who both chose this event as their first-ever half marathon.

Taking on your first half is always a big step, but doing it on a course like the Bodmin Beast is something else entirely. With the distance stretching beyond the standard 13.1 miles and the challenging profile throughout, it’s a true test of both physical and mental strength.

Both Elena and Sally rose to the challenge brilliantly, pushing through the tough sections and crossing the finish line with a huge achievement under their belts. Completing your first half marathon is something to be proud of — doing it here makes it even more special.

Strong Runs from Steve and Janet

Also taking on the Beast were Steve Phillips and Janet Ritchie, who both delivered very respectable performances on a course that doesn’t give much away.

Races like this are all about pacing, experience and knowing how to manage the hills, and both runners handled the challenge well from start to finish.

It’s never easy to run consistently on such a demanding route, so putting in solid times here is always a great result.

A Proper Test of Endurance

The Bodmin Beast has built its reputation for a reason. It’s not just the distance — it’s the combination of elevation, terrain and the constant effort required that makes it such a tough race.

But that’s also what makes it so rewarding.

Every climb conquered and every mile ticked off adds to the sense of achievement, and crossing that finish line feels all the more satisfying because of what it takes to get there.

A Race to Be Proud Of

From first-time half marathon finishes to strong, experienced performances, it was a fantastic showing from Carn Runners at one of Cornwall’s toughest events.

Huge well done to Elena, Sally, Steve and Janet for taking on the Bodmin Beast and representing the club so well.

First half marathons, tough miles and great running all round — a brilliant effort from everyone involved 👏💙💛
