Carn Runners were flying the club colours internationally this weekend, with members heading out to Spain to take on the Elche Half Marathon & 10km — a fantastic event set in the sunshine and a great change of scenery from the usual Cornish routes.
With warm conditions and a completely different race-day atmosphere, it made for a memorable experience from the start.
A Change of Plans on the Course
The original plan was to take on the half marathon distance, but as the race unfolded, both runners made the sensible decision to step off at the 10km point.
Sometimes race day doesn’t quite go to plan, and knowing when to adjust is all part of running. Whether it’s conditions, how the body is feeling or other factors on the day, making the right call is always the priority.
Despite not completing the full distance, it was still a lovely morning out, with miles covered, the experience enjoyed and the Carn colours proudly represented abroad.
A Familiar Face in Spain
One of the highlights of the day was catching up with former Carn Runners members Gary and Kim, who are now living in Spain.
It’s always great to reconnect with past members of the club, no matter where in the world that happens. The running community has a way of bringing people together, even miles from home.
And there was still a full distance success to celebrate…
Gary Goes the Distance
While others opted to stop at 10km, Gary pushed on to complete the full half marathon distance, getting over the line and securing a strong finish.
A great effort and a brilliant achievement — especially in a race away from home.
Carn Colours Across the Globe
It’s always fantastic to see Carn Runners members taking part in events beyond Cornwall, and even beyond the UK. From local trail races to international half marathons, the Carn colours continue to travel far and wide.
Whether it’s completing the full distance, adjusting plans on the day or simply enjoying the experience, every race adds to the journey.
Well done to everyone involved for representing the club in Spain and making it a memorable day of running.
