It was a huge day of achievement for Carn Runners as James and Claire took on the Exeter Marathon, tackling the full 26.2 miles and coming away with performances to be proud of.
Marathons always demand respect, and Exeter is no different. From the early miles through to the final push, it’s a test of pacing, endurance and mental strength — and both runners showed exactly what it takes to get the job done.
A Brilliant PB for James
A massive congratulations to James, who not only completed the marathon but did so in personal best time.
PBs don’t come easy over the marathon distance. They require consistent training, smart pacing and the ability to stay focused right through to the finish. To deliver that on race day is a fantastic achievement and a real reward for the effort put in over the weeks and months leading up to it.
A brilliant run and a well-deserved result.
Claire Shows True Grit
Alongside James, Claire delivered a performance that perfectly sums up what marathon running is all about.
After hitting hip pain around mile 18, the race became less about time and more about determination. Those final miles are tough at the best of times, but pushing through discomfort takes a different level of resilience.
Claire dug deep, kept moving forward and crossed the finish line, showing true grit and mental strength to get it done.
That’s a marathon effort to be seriously proud of.
A Well-Earned Reward
After 26.2 miles, there’s nothing better than a proper reward at the finish — and in this case, it came in the form of free pizza.
Safe to say it was well deserved after the effort both runners put in out on the course!
A Fantastic Day for Carn Runners
From a PB performance to a determined finish through adversity, it was a brilliant day for Carn Runners at the Exeter Marathon.
Huge well done to James and Claire for conquering the distance and representing the club so well.
26.2 miles done, medals earned and another marathon story to tell — fantastic running both 👏💙💛
