Jan and Sarah have started their Cascais adventure with a 5K night run and, in their words, a “good party atmosphere”. Their next stop is registration for Saturday’s main event. It is a short but happy update from Portugal: the first run is done, and the weekend’s bigger challenge is still ahead.
A 5K start in Cascais
The 2026 Night Run Cascais took place on Wednesday 14 October at Marina de Cascais. It was a five-kilometre run within the wider programme for the town’s IRONMAN weekend, giving people a chance to take part before the Saturday triathlons.
For Jan and Sarah, it was the opening chapter of their trip rather than the finish of the story. Their description of a party atmosphere captures what stood out to them about the evening. There is no need for a finishing time to make that worth sharing: their update gives everyone back at Carn a glimpse of the event as they experienced it, before attention turns to Saturday.
The Night Run also has its own place in the weekend. It is a 5K running event, not one of the triathlons taking place two days later. That distinction matters when following a trip that includes more than one start line. Wednesday was an opportunity to run in Cascais; Saturday brings the main race programme that Jan and Sarah are now preparing for.
Saturday’s event is next
On Saturday 17 October, Cascais is due to host both IRONMAN Portugal-Cascais and IRONMAN 70.3 Portugal-Cascais. As Cascais Municipality’s event preview explains, the two races cover different distances, but each combines swimming, cycling and running. The Night Run forms part of the surrounding programme; it is not a shortened version of either Saturday race.
Jan and Sarah’s message keeps the focus firmly on where they are in the adventure now: a completed evening 5K, an atmosphere they enjoyed and registration still to do for Saturday. We are looking forward to hearing how the next part of their Cascais weekend goes. For now, it is lovely to see two Carnies beginning an away-race trip with a run together.
Members who have enjoyed following their outings might also remember Jan and Sarah’s hilly Mount Edgcumbe parkrun. This time the setting is Portugal, and the next start line is just around the corner. Good luck for Saturday, Jan and Sarah!
Whether it is a five-kilometre evening run or a much longer race weekend, it is always good to hear where our members’ running takes them. This first Cascais update gives us one moment from the trip without getting ahead of race day: Jan and Sarah have made their start, and we will be cheering them on from Cornwall as Saturday arrives.
