There may not have been a running race for Janet this weekend, but there was still a major endurance challenge on the schedule.

On Saturday 12 September, Janet completed the tough and hilly long route at the Land’s End 100 cycling sportive. After covering an impressive 104 miles around Cornwall, she crossed the finish line within Gold Medal time.

A demanding 104-mile ride

Starting and finishing at Folly Field in Marazion, close to St Michael’s Mount, the Land’s End 100 offers riders a choice of distances. Janet opted for the longest available challenge, taking on a full day of cycling over a course where the hills ensured those 104 miles were certainly not straightforward.

The sportive is electronically chip timed, with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded according to each rider’s completion time and category. Reaching the finish of the long route is a considerable achievement in itself, but completing it within the Gold standard made Janet’s ride even more impressive.

It was another fine example of a Carn Runner showing that club members’ endurance achievements are not limited to running shoes. A century ride requires sustained effort over many hours, and Cornwall’s terrain adds an extra test from beginning to end.

Another big cycling achievement for Janet

Janet is no stranger to covering serious distances on two wheels. She previously completed an epic 400-mile charity ride for Cornwall Hospice Care, adding another memorable endurance achievement to her growing collection.

This time it was 104 tough and hilly miles, followed by a thoroughly deserved Gold Medal result.

Huge congratulations to Janet on completing the Land’s End 100 long route in Gold Medal time!
