Carn Runners were back in action at the coast this weekend as a group took on the ever-fun and slightly quirky Mad Hatter Aquathlon at Polkerris.
Combining a sea swim with a run, aquathlons offer a completely different kind of challenge — and this one, with its relaxed vibe and coastal setting, is always a popular event on the local calendar.
Swim, Then Run
The format is simple but tough: start with a sea swim, then head straight out onto the run.
Transitioning from water to land isn’t always easy. Cold water, shifting legs and the sudden change in effort can catch even experienced runners off guard. But it’s all part of the challenge — and part of what makes events like this so enjoyable.
Carn Runners Step Up
Representing the club were Laura, Marlene, Jan, Sarah and Janna, all taking on the swim-run challenge and flying the Carn colours once again.
Aquathlons require a mix of skills, and it’s always great to see runners stepping outside the usual road or trail races and giving something different a go.
Each runner put in a strong effort, tackling both elements of the race and making the most of a great event.
A Brilliant Coastal Event
Polkerris is a fantastic setting for events like this, with the sea providing the perfect start and the surrounding routes offering a scenic run to follow.
The Mad Hatter Aquathlon has built a reputation for being a friendly, well-organised and enjoyable event, and this year was no different. A great atmosphere, supportive competitors and a bit of fun along the way all helped make it a memorable day.
Well Done All
A huge well done to Laura, Marlene, Jan, Sarah and Janna for taking on the Mad Hatter Aquathlon and representing Carn Runners so well.
Swimming, running and plenty of smiles along the way — a brilliant effort from the whole crew 👏💙💛
