Our Wednesday run on 28 October 2026 is listed as Pengegon/Beacon, with three mapped choices: 5.0, 6.0 and 7.1 miles. If you are deciding which group to join, distance is a useful starting point—but it is not the only difference. All three maps describe moderately hilly circular routes, and the longest option has noticeably more climbing on its mapped profile.

Here are the current Run Schedule and the three route maps in one place, so you can have a look before club night. The schedule is also the place to check for any changes before setting off.

Choose a route that fits your evening

The 5.0-mile route

Open the 5.0-mile Pengegon/Beacon map if you would like the shortest of the three scheduled distances. Plotaroute measures it at just under five miles and describes it as a moderately hilly circular road route. In other words, choosing the shortest option does not mean choosing a flat one. It does give you fewer miles to cover than the other two choices.

This can be a sensible map to start with if you are getting to know our Wednesday routes, have less time available or simply fancy a shorter group run. Have a look at the full loop rather than relying on the distance alone: seeing the shape of the route makes it easier to recognise where you are heading when the group sets off.

The 6.0-mile route

The 6.0-mile Pengegon/Beacon map sits between the other two for distance. It is also a circular road route described as moderately hilly. Its mapped raw ascent is higher than the five-mile option’s, so the extra mile is not the whole story if you are comparing how the evening might feel.

If six miles is a comfortable club-night distance for you, this is the middle choice. Open its own map before you come along: the three distances are separate mapped routes, not instructions to turn back whenever your watch reaches five or six miles.

The 7.1-mile route

For a longer outing, there is the 7.1-mile Pengegon/Beacon map. Plotaroute describes this circular route as moderately hilly and mostly on roads. Its raw ascent estimate is around 597 feet, compared with around 429 feet for the six-mile map and 374 feet for the five-mile map. Those figures are mapping estimates, but they make one useful point clear: the longest choice adds more than distance.

Take a moment to open the map and elevation profile if you are considering this option. It is easier to choose confidently when you have seen both the length of the loop and its hills.

What the maps can—and cannot—tell you

Each Plotaroute page lets you view the route and its elevation profile, and offers downloadable map and GPS formats if you use them. That is handy for recognising the loop in advance or checking your bearings later. The map will not, however, tell you which pace group will be right for you on the night. Distance and pace are different decisions.

When you arrive, ask which group is taking the distance you have in mind and what sort of pace it expects to run. You do not have to pick the longest route to get a good Wednesday run, and you do not have to decide from a map alone. If you are weighing up two choices, a quick conversation before everyone heads out is more useful than finding halfway through that you have joined a longer or quicker group than you wanted.

Coming along on 28 October?
