It was a perfect day for racing as two Carn Runners, Steve Phillips and Sally Powell, took on the challenging St Austell Skyline 10 Miler.

Known for its tough profile and rewarding scenery, the Skyline race is a firm favourite on the Cornish running calendar. With plenty of climbing and some breathtaking views along the way, it’s a race that tests both legs and lungs — but always delivers a memorable experience.

A Tough Course with Big Rewards

The St Austell Skyline route is not one to be underestimated. With steady climbs, undulating sections and terrain that keeps runners working from start to finish, it demands a strong, consistent effort throughout.

But for those willing to take on the challenge, the reward is more than worth it.

The course offers some superb views across the Cornish landscape, making those tougher sections just a little more enjoyable. On a clear day, it’s one of those races where you can take a moment, look around, and appreciate just how special running in Cornwall can be.

Strong Running from Steve

Steve Phillips put in a great performance, tackling the demanding course with determination and pacing it well from start to finish.

Races like the Skyline require more than just speed — they demand patience and the ability to manage effort across the hills. Steve handled that brilliantly, putting together a strong and consistent run on a course that doesn’t give much away for free.

Sally Secures Another Age Group Win

There was also a fantastic result for Sally Powell, who delivered another excellent performance to take 1st place in her age category.

Age group wins are always something to celebrate, especially on a course as challenging as this one. Sally’s result is a great reflection of her strength and consistency, and another brilliant achievement for both her and the club.

Carn Colours Flying Proudly

It’s always great to see Carn Runners represented at local races, especially ones as iconic as the St Austell Skyline. Even with a smaller turnout, the impact is just as strong, with runners proudly wearing the Carn colours and delivering great performances.

Steve and Sally both did exactly that, taking on a tough course and coming away with results to be proud of.

A Great Day of Racing

With perfect conditions, a challenging route and some stunning views, the St Austell Skyline 10 Miler once again proved why it’s such a popular event.

Huge well done to Steve Phillips and Sally Powell for their efforts and for representing Carn Runners so well.

And congratulations again to Sally on her age group win — a fantastic result on a tough course 👏💙💛
