Sunflower Stride – Dennis and Janet’s Dorchester Adventure

This week, Dennis and Janet swapped the Cornish lanes for the Dorset countryside, taking part in the Sunflower Stride in Dorchester. On a warm, sunny evening, the pair enjoyed a race that was as scenic as it was unusual.

A Race with a Difference

The Sunflower Stride isn’t your typical road or trail event. The route begins with paths winding through sunflower and maize fields, creating a colourful and immersive start to the race. The tall crops framed the runners as they made their way forward, offering a unique setting that few events can match.

The Climb to Maiden Castle

From there, the challenge ramped up—literally. Runners were faced with a climb up to the historic Maiden Castle hill fort, one of the largest and most impressive Iron Age forts in Europe. The effort of the ascent was rewarded with stunning views over Weymouth and the Portland coastline, making it well worth the climb.

The combination of farmland paths, heritage landmarks, and panoramic scenery gave this race a real sense of variety and charm.

A Memorable Evening Out

For Dennis and Janet, it was more than just another run—it was an experience. The friendly atmosphere, the unique course, and the golden evening light made the Sunflower Stride a race to remember. Sometimes, stepping outside your usual routes and trying something new is exactly what’s needed to refresh the spirit.

Well done to Dennis and Janet for taking on the challenge and representing Carn Runners in Dorset. A warm evening, a tough climb, and those unbeatable coastal views made this one to savour.
