It was a bright and welcome change in conditions for Janet and Vicky, who headed to Somerset to take on the popular Taunton Half Marathon. With clear skies and dry weather throughout the race, it made for a fantastic day of running alongside thousands of fellow competitors.

The event attracted around 2,000 runners, creating a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish. From the moment runners gathered on the start line, there was a real buzz in the air, with spectators lining sections of the course and volunteers helping to keep everything running smoothly.

Flying the Carn Colours

Janet and Vicky proudly represented Carn Runners on the start line, wearing the club colours and ready to take on the 13.1 mile challenge. The Taunton Half is known for its friendly feel and supportive crowds, and this year was no exception.

As the race got underway, runners flowed through the streets of Taunton before heading out along the course where cheering spectators and enthusiastic volunteers created a great sense of encouragement along the way. Having that level of support can make a huge difference during a half marathon, especially as the miles begin to build.

Both runners settled into their pace and enjoyed the steady rhythm of the race. With dry conditions and good running weather, it was a great opportunity to simply enjoy the event and the atmosphere.

A Brilliant Race Day Atmosphere

One of the highlights of large events like the Taunton Half Marathon is the energy that comes from being part of such a big field of runners. With around two thousand participants taking part, the course had a fantastic buzz throughout the race.

Spectators were out in force in several sections, offering encouragement, ringing bells and cheering runners on as they passed. Events like this always remind runners how supportive the running community can be.

For Janet and Vicky, it was a great experience from start to finish – a well-organised race with a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of encouragement along the route.

A Well-Earned Reward Afterwards

Of course, no race day adventure is complete without a little post-race reward. After the effort of completing a half marathon, Janet and Vicky made a stop on the way home at Buckfast Abbey, where a well-earned roast was waiting.

After 13.1 miles on the road, a proper meal is always deserved, and it sounds like the perfect way to round off a great day of running.

Representing the Club with Pride

It’s always fantastic to see Carn Runners members travelling to races beyond Cornwall and representing the club at events further afield. Janet and Vicky did exactly that at the Taunton Half Marathon, showing the same enthusiasm and determination that we see week after week at club runs and local races.

Huge well done to both runners for flying the Carn colours and enjoying a brilliant race day.
