Totnes 10K – Sunny Devon, Scenic Miles, and a Sleepy Finish
It was a glorious Sunday in South Devon as a group of Carn Runners took on the Totnes 10K—a fun and friendly event that delivered on both challenge and charm.
Billed as a 10K, the course actually comes in at around 6.7 miles, but who’s counting when you’re surrounded by countryside, fellow runners, and a buzzing race-day atmosphere?
Sunshine, Smiles, and a Few Cheeky Climbs
The weather set the tone early, with bright sunshine and blue skies from the off. As lovely as it was, the warmth definitely added to the test, especially with a few cheeky hills thrown in for good measure.
The Totnes 10K is well known for its off-road sections, tree-lined trails, and a mix of undulating terrain that keeps runners on their toes. Thankfully, there were plenty of shaded parts and enthusiastic marshals to help everyone stay cool and motivated.
Whether pushing for a time or taking it steady to enjoy the scenery, the course offered a little something for everyone.
Buckfastleigh Abbey & Post-Race Banter
One unexpected highlight was a bit of sightseeing at Buckfastleigh Abbey, a peaceful and historic spot that added some extra character to the day. But not everyone had the energy to fully appreciate it by the end…
Sarah put in a strong run—but post-finish, she was well and truly flat out (literally!), spotted laying down in a granite coffin with a grin and a groan.
Proof that the course takes it out of you—but also that Carn Runners never miss an opportunity for a good photo and a laugh!
A Great Day Out
Events like the Totnes 10K are what summer running is all about. Scenic surroundings, community spirit, and that unbeatable feeling of crossing the line with your clubmates cheering you in.
It’s always fantastic to see our runners enjoying the journey, not just chasing the clock. Whether it’s the finish time, the view, or the chocolate bar in the goody bag, there’s always something worth celebrating.
Well done to everyone who took part—you made the most of the sunshine and represented Carn Runners with strength, smiles and a touch of humour.
