Virtual Warhorse 10K – Running to Remember
This weekend, several Carn Runners took part in the Virtual Warhorse 10K, braving classic Cornish wind and rain to complete their miles in honour of those who served.
What began as a small idea turned into something truly meaningful. When organisers of the original Warhorse Run discovered they had medals left over, they decided to sell them as part of a virtual challenge, with all proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal. Rather than letting medals go to waste, runners could take part anywhere, completing their 10K in their own time — and raising money for a cause that continues to touch so many lives.
Running in Honour
For Carn Runners, the timing made the event even more special. Completing the Virtual Warhorse 10K on Remembrance Day gave the run a deeper sense of reflection and gratitude.
Despite heavy rain and gusty wind, our runners headed out determined to complete the challenge — a fitting tribute to the strength and resilience symbolised by the Warhorse itself. The course may not have been official, but the effort and emotion behind every mile certainly were.
There were no crowds or finish lines this time, just the sound of rain, footsteps, and the quiet sense of purpose that comes from running for something bigger than yourself.
The Meaning Behind the Medal
The Warhorse Run takes its name and inspiration from the incredible story of the horses who served alongside soldiers during wartime — loyal, brave, and often unsung heroes. The medal, which features the famous warhorse imagery, carries a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by both humans and animals in conflict.
By offering these medals through a virtual event, the organisers not only raised funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, but also gave runners a meaningful way to remember and contribute.
For our team, wearing the medal after a wet and wild Cornish 10K felt like something to be proud of — a simple gesture of respect and remembrance.
A Rain-Soaked but Rewarding Run
The morning weather was about as Cornish as it gets — heavy rain, strong winds, and plenty of puddles — but spirits stayed high. The miles passed quickly, fuelled by conversation, reflection, and the occasional laugh about soggy trainers and windblown hair.
It wasn’t about times or splits, just about getting out there, showing respect, and doing what we love most — running.
Running to Remember
Completing the Virtual Warhorse 10K on Remembrance Day was a poignant reminder that running can be about more than personal achievement. It can be a way to connect, to honour, and to give back.
Well done to everyone who took part, both within Carn Runners and across the country. A soggy run, perhaps, but one filled with heart, gratitude, and pride. ❤️💛💙
