Some race days are all sunshine and smiles.
Others are about digging deep, embracing the conditions, and getting round with a grin anyway.
For Janet, race day in Dawlish definitely fell into the second category.
It was a wet and blustery day, with plenty of wind and a course that had turned properly muddy underfoot. The kind of conditions that test your balance, your patience, and your sense of humour — often all at once.
But despite the weather (and the mud), Janet was smiling.
When the Course Gives You Everything
With the rain and wind coming through, the course quickly became slippery and heavy in places. Mud clung to shoes, footing needed constant attention, and every mile demanded a bit more effort than planned.
These are the days where:
- Pace becomes secondary
- Staying upright becomes the main goal
- Effort matters more than splits
And yet, those are often the races people remember most.
Enjoying It Anyway 😁
What really stood out was Janet’s attitude. Even with the conditions doing their best to make life difficult, she still enjoyed the run — and that says a lot.
Running through wind and mud isn’t always glamorous, but it’s part of what makes racing in the UK what it is. Turning up, giving it a go, and coming away with a smile is a win in itself.
Well Done, Janet 👏
A big well done to Janet for getting out there, tackling the conditions, and making the most of a challenging day. Muddy shoes wash clean — but the sense of achievement sticks around a lot longer.
Another great Carn Runners effort 💙💛
