The Webbs’ parkrun Alphabet Challenge is getting seriously close to completion!

While enjoying some time in Spain, there was obviously only one sensible thing to do on a Saturday morning – pop across the border into Gibraltar and squeeze in another parkrun.

And this one was particularly important.

A visit to the relatively new Gibraltar Botanical Gardens parkrun meant finally ticking off the elusive ‘G’, leaving just one letter remaining in the entire alphabet challenge.

Just Y to go!

A New parkrun Adventure in Gibraltar

Gibraltar Botanical Gardens parkrun is one of the newest additions to the parkrun family, having launched earlier in 2026.

Set within Gibraltar’s beautiful Botanic Gardens, it provided a completely different setting for another Saturday morning 5K and made an ideal little adventure while staying across the border in Spain.

The course itself proved to be brilliant fun, but what really stood out was the atmosphere.

As we have found at so many parkruns during this challenge, there was a genuinely friendly welcome from the volunteers and local runners. That relaxed, inclusive feeling is one of the reasons parkrun tourism has become such an enjoyable part of the challenge.

No matter where you turn up, there is something wonderfully familiar about a group of people gathering on a Saturday morning to walk, jog, run or volunteer together.

G is Officially in the Bag

More importantly for the alphabet mission, Gibraltar delivered the all-important G.

For anyone who hasn’t followed the adventure from the beginning, the parkrun Alphabet Challenge involves completing an event beginning with each available letter of the alphabet.

It has taken the Webbs all over the UK and further afield, with parkrun tourism becoming just as much about the places visited and memories made as the letters themselves.

Earlier this year, we shared their progress in The Webbs Take on the parkrun Alphabet Challenge, when they were tantalisingly close with just a few remaining letters.

At that point, G and Y were still waiting to be claimed.

Now Gibraltar has taken care of one of them.

From Cornwall to Gibraltar

What started as a fun parkrun challenge has turned into a fantastic collection of weekends away, early starts and adventures.

The journey has already included locations across England as well as trips to Poland and the Netherlands, with Carn colours appearing at a growing collection of parkruns along the way.

Gibraltar now joins that list and is certainly one of the more unusual destinations.

There is something quite satisfying about being on holiday in Spain and realising that another country – and another alphabet letter – is sitting just across the border!

Naturally, it had to be done.

One Elusive Letter Remains…

And so we reach the final hurdle.

Y.

After all the travelling, planning and Saturday morning alarms, the entire challenge now comes down to finding one final parkrun beginning with Y.

It is amazing to think how far the challenge has come.

What could simply have been a collection of 5K runs has instead created an excuse to explore new places, meet different parkrun communities and build a huge collection of memories along the way.

There may only be one letter left, but we’re sure finding the right Y will create another adventure of its own.

Gibraltar Gets a Big Recommendation

For any Carnies who happen to find themselves in southern Spain or Gibraltar, Gibraltar Botanical Gardens parkrun comes highly recommended.

It was a brilliant course, there was a really friendly and fun atmosphere, and it made for a fantastic addition to the holiday.

And if you’re working through your own alphabet challenge, there is now another excellent way of securing that G!

A huge well done to the Webbs on reaching another milestone in what has become a brilliant parkrun adventure.

G officially complete.

Just Y to go… 👏💙💛
