Sunshine and History: Carn Runners’ 5-Mile Portreath Tramway Outing

On a bright and cheerful morning, Carn Runners’ members Dawn, Donna, Peter, and Steve embarked on a delightful 5-mile run along the historic Portreath Tramway. This out-and-back route offered not only a satisfying workout but also a journey through Cornwall’s rich industrial heritage.

The Portreath Tramway, established in the early 19th century, was Cornwall’s first railway, originally constructed to transport copper ore from the mines near Scorrier to the harbour at Portreath. Today, the former tramway has been transformed into a scenic trail, providing runners and walkers with a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance.

As the quartet set off, the sun cast a warm glow over the trail, enhancing the lush greenery and remnants of the area’s mining past. The well-maintained path, flanked by woodland and open landscapes, made for an enjoyable and invigorating run.

This outing exemplifies the spirit of Carn Runners—combining fitness, friendship, and an appreciation for the local environment. Whether training for upcoming events or simply enjoying the pleasure of a shared run, our members continue to make the most of Cornwall’s diverse trails.

Stay tuned for more updates on our adventures and achievements!
