Perranporth Triathlon Relay – Wet, Wild and Wonderful
The Perranporth Triathlon is famous for being one of Cornwall’s most challenging multisport events — and this year’s relay team from Carn Runners showed exactly what grit and teamwork look like. Battling the wild surf, rolling roads, and sandy miles, they embraced the conditions and came away with a performance to be proud of.
Sarah’s Surf Swim
Sarah Choak kicked things off with the surf swim leg, braving the waves of Perranporth beach. With a choppy sea and powerful surf, it was a true test of strength and composure in the water. Sarah rose to the challenge brilliantly, showing confidence in the waves and setting the team up for the bike leg.
Janet’s Double Effort – Bike and Run
From there, it was over to Janet Watson, who took on not just one, but two demanding legs of the relay. First, a 25-mile bike ride on the undulating Cornish lanes — a route that demands constant focus with climbs, descents, and exposed stretches. Janet handled it with determination, keeping strong right to the final miles.
Then came the 7K run, which took competitors along the beach and sand dunes — a notoriously tough surface that saps energy with every stride. Despite already having the bike in her legs, Janet dug deep and pushed through, finishing the relay with a fantastic run along Perranporth’s iconic coastline.
A Team to Be Proud Of
Relay events showcase the best of team spirit, and Sarah and Janet delivered in style. From the wild swim start to the last sandy steps, the effort and determination on show were a brilliant reflection of the Carn Runners ethos: supporting each other, embracing challenges, and giving it everything no matter the conditions.
Huge congratulations to Sarah and Janet for completing the Perranporth Triathlon Relay in such tough conditions. Wet, wild, and wonderfully Cornish — it was a day to remember.
