Carn Runners Celebrate Success in the Cornwall Multi-Terrain Race Series 2024–25

The 2024–25 Cornwall Multi-Terrain Race Series (MTRS) — what a season it’s been for Carn Runners. This year, eight club members completed seven or more races to earn their coveted series award, capping off months of grit, mud, and determination across some of Cornwall’s most scenic (and testing) routes.

Eight Carnies Go the Distance

Congratulations to our finishers:

💛 Jo Cauchi
💛 Sarah Choak
💛 Peter Drew
💛 Janna Eyre
💛 Judy Jameson
💛 Steve Phillips
💛 Janet Ritchie
💛 Janet Watson

Each of these runners showed incredible commitment by completing at least seven of the eleven events, which range from muddy woodland trails to hilly coast-path grinds. For many, the series means early starts, wet shoes, and plenty of miles on Cornwall’s toughest terrain — and that’s exactly what makes the achievement so special.

The Eleven-Race Warrior

A special mention goes to Sarah Choak, who went above and beyond by completing all eleven races in the series — the only Carn Runner to do so. From Lanhydrock to Tywardreath, Sarah showed unwavering consistency and a true love for the sport. Completing the full set is no small feat; it demands stamina, scheduling, and sheer stubborn determination. Fantastic work, Sarah!

Age-Group Podiums and Club Pride

Carn Runners also celebrated several standout performances in the age-group rankings:

🥇 Jan Ritchie – 1st place
🥈 Judy Jameson – 2nd place
🥈 Janet Watson – 2nd place
🥉 Peter Drew – 3rd place

These results reflect months of consistent running across demanding conditions — wet trails, steep climbs, and classic Cornish weather. The MTRS is known for its variety, covering woodland, beach, and moorland terrain, and to claim podium finishes in such a competitive field is an outstanding accomplishment.

About the Series

The Cornwall Multi-Terrain Race Series is a highlight of the county running calendar, bringing together athletes from clubs across the region. Races typically include events like the Tywardreath Trotter, Treggy 7, An Res Hellys, and The Beastly Half, offering runners a true taste of Cornwall’s diverse landscapes. To qualify for a series award, participants must complete at least seven of the races — no easy task when the calendar spans most of the year.

Team Spirit & Achievement

Beyond the times and trophies, what stands out most is the team spirit that defines Carn Runners. Whether racing, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, the support within the club continues to make these achievements even more meaningful. The shared commitment to showing up — whatever the weather — perfectly embodies the Carn Runners ethos.

As the dust (and mud) settles on another successful season, we’re proud of every member who pulled on the blue and yellow vest and represented the club so brilliantly throughout the series.

Well Done, Carnies!

To Jo, Sarah, Peter, Janna, Judy, Steve, Janet R., and Janet W., congratulations on a fantastic series and on flying the Carn Runners flag across Cornwall. The trophies, medals, and memories are well-earned — now it’s time to rest, refuel, and get ready to do it all again next season. 💛💙
