Another evening of racing brought another collection of brilliant results for Carn Runners, as Jan, Sally, Steve P and Tori took on the St Ives Bay 10K.

This is certainly not your average 10K. With beach running, sand dunes and the trails of the Towans to contend with, the race provides a very different challenge from a fast road event. Throw in the notorious Dune of Doom and there is plenty to test the legs before runners finally make their way back towards the finish.

Our four Carnies rose to the challenge brilliantly, with two age-category podium places and another agonisingly close fourth place to celebrate.

Jan Takes the Top Spot

A huge congratulations goes to Jan, who produced another fantastic performance to finish first in her age category. 🥇

Reaching the top step of the podium is always something special, particularly on a course where pace alone only tells part of the story. Running efficiently on sand, tackling the dunes and maintaining an effort across constantly changing terrain all add to the challenge.

Jan handled it brilliantly and earned another well-deserved age-category victory for the collection.

Fantastic running, Jan!

Second Place for Sally

There was more podium success courtesy of Sally, who finished an excellent second in her age category. 🥈

Sally has already enjoyed plenty of strong performances this year, and St Ives Bay provided another opportunity to show her consistency across a very different type of course.

Another age-category prize is a brilliant achievement and continues what has been an excellent run of racing.

Huge congratulations, Sally!

Tori Just Misses the Podium

It was also an excellent evening for Tori, who came incredibly close to joining Jan and Sally on the podium.

Tori finished fourth in her age category, narrowly missing out on a prize but nevertheless producing a fantastic result on a tough course.

Fourth can sometimes feel like the cruellest finishing position when the podium is so close, but it should take absolutely nothing away from a superb performance.

Brilliant running, Tori – that podium surely isn’t far away!

Another Strong Run from Steve

Completing the Carn quartet was Steve P, who also took on everything the St Ives Bay course had to offer.

From the long sections of sand to the dunes and trails, this is a race that keeps asking questions right through to the finish, and Steve put in another strong performance while proudly flying the Carn colours.

Well done, Steve!

A Proper Cornish Off-Road Challenge

One of the great things about the local racing calendar is the variety of events available.

One week our members might be racing on the road, the next climbing hills or tackling coast paths, and then along comes a race where a significant portion of the evening involves trying to keep moving efficiently through sand!

The St Ives Bay 10K is exactly that kind of event. It rewards strength and determination as much as outright speed and gives runners a chance to test themselves on terrain very different from the usual road 10K.

For Jan, Sally, Steve and Tori, it proved to be another excellent night representing the club.

Well Done, Team!

A massive well done to all four Carn Runners who took part.

Special congratulations once again to Jan on first place in her age category, Sally on second, and Tori on an excellent fourth-place finish.

And, of course, a big well done to Steve for another strong race and another outing in the yellow and blue.

Two podium places, one very close fourth and four Carnies taking on one of Cornwall’s more unusual 10K challenges – another great evening for the club.

Fantastic running, everyone! 💙💛
