What Is the Cornwall Grand Prix? Everything You Need to Know 🏁
If you’ve been running in Cornwall for a while, you’ve probably heard people mention the Cornwall Grand Prix (often shortened to Cornwall GP). But what exactly is it?
Whether you’re a seasoned racer or just getting started, here’s your go-to guide to Cornwall’s biggest and most inclusive road running series.
✅ What Is the Cornwall Grand Prix?
The Cornwall Grand Prix is a 14-race series of officially measured road races held throughout the year at various locations across the county. It’s overseen by the Cornwall Road Running and Racing Group.
Each race is organised by one of the affiliated local running clubs — for example:
- Storm Force 10 by Carn Runners
- Turkey Trot by Cornwall AC
- Falmouth Half by Falmouth Road Runners
You don’t have to run them all — just 8 to qualify for end-of-season standings (2 of the eight need to be 10 miles or more in distance). Runners compete for individual age-category awards, team points, and personal bests.
🏃♀️ Who Can Take Part?
Anyone aged 15 or older can enter GP races (some races have a minimum age of 18). You don’t have to be part of a running club — but club runners (like us at Carn!) often attend in big numbers and enter the team competition as well.
📍 Where and When Are the Races?
Races are spread across the year and hosted by different clubs, including:
- Storm Force 10 (Camborne)
- Falmouth Half Marathon
- Sticker 5 Mile
- Truro Half Marathon
- Mob Match (East vs West, August)
You’ll find races from 5 miles to marathon distance, with a mix of flat, fast courses and challenging hillier routes.

🏆 How Are Points Scored?
Points are awarded based on your finish position in your age category. The more races you complete, the more chances you have to score points for yourself and your club.
To appear in the final tables, you must complete at least 8 races. (2 of the eight need to be 10 miles or more in distance)
🎽 Why Do Runners Love It?
- It gives structure to your race year
- You’ll discover events you might not have tried otherwise
- You meet runners from clubs across Cornwall
- It’s competitive, but friendly — and very welcoming
For club runners, it’s also a brilliant way to earn points for your team and represent your vest.
🙋♂️ Can Beginners Take Part?
Absolutely. You’ll find a mix of runners at every race — from those chasing podiums to those aiming for a strong finish. Many beginners use GP races as their first official event.
If you’re unsure, come along with a clubmate or give one a go — you’ll likely be hooked!
