Jan celebrated her birthday weekend in suitably active style, heading over the border once again for the Warhorse 10K in Devon.
Held in Iddesleigh on Sunday 20 September, the race provided another chance to enjoy some miles away from the usual Cornish routes. The weather also delivered a late-summer surprise, with unexpectedly warm and sunny conditions greeting the runners.
A birthday race in Iddesleigh
The 2026 Warhorse 10 followed an approximately 10km course around Iddesleigh, with most of the route on road and a short section across private off-road land. Its rural setting also offered runners views towards Dartmoor, although the sunshine meant it was not necessarily the cool September outing some might have expected.
Carn Runners are becoming familiar visitors to this event. The club also made the journey north for the 2025 Warhorse 10K, when Zoe recorded a new personal best alongside another strong Carn showing.
This year’s visit was less about chasing a headline result and more about marking Jan’s birthday weekend with another race-day adventure. Warm weather can make an undulating country course feel that little bit tougher, but it also provided a bright backdrop for the occasion.
Post-race lunch in Okehampton
Once the running was done, the celebrations continued with lunch at the White Hart in Okehampton. A Devon race followed by a pub lunch made for a fine way to spend a sunny birthday weekend.
