Parkrun Tourism – Roma Caffarella, Italy
This weekend, Steve, Zeo and their children swapped the Cornish lanes for something very different—Roma Caffarella Parkrun in the heart of Rome. And what an experience it turned out to be!
The Friendliest Parkrun?
From the moment they arrived, the whole family was made to feel incredibly welcome. The Roma Caffarella team is renowned for its friendliness, but Steve and Zeo were still amazed by just how warm and genuine the atmosphere was. Volunteers and regulars took time to chat, learn where visitors had come from, and make sure everyone felt at home.
It’s a perfect reminder of what makes parkrun special—no matter where you are in the world, you’re never really a stranger.
Fresh Figs at the Finish
After completing the run, the family were treated to a finish-line snack you don’t often see back home—the freshest figs, picked locally and handed out with big smiles. A small gesture, but one that summed up the generosity of the event.
Coffee with New Friends
The hospitality didn’t stop there. The Roma Caffarella crew went one step further and even bought Steve, Zeo, their children, and some other visiting parkrunners a coffee after the run. Sitting together, swapping stories and soaking in the Roman sunshine—it was the kind of parkrun tourism memory that will stick for years to come.
More Than Just a Run
For Steve and Zeo, this wasn’t just about ticking off another parkrun on the map. It was about sharing a unique experience with their children, discovering a new community, and showing once again how sport has the power to bring people together across borders.
A huge well done to Zoe, who also got a PB!
A huge thank you to the Roma Caffarella Parkrun team for making our members feel so welcome. And well done to Steve, Zeo and their children for flying the Carn Runners flag abroad—you’ve reminded us all that running really is a universal language.
