Saturday Social 7-Miler – Hills Up, Speed Down and Smiles All Around
This week’s Saturday social, with the group heading out for a 7-mile loop across some of our favourite Cornish lanes and trails. The theme of the day? What goes up must come down!
Climbing to the Beacon
The run began with a steady climb up towards Beacon, waking up the legs and lungs early. From there, the group pushed on through Troon and Bollenoe, keeping a steady, sociable pace. Social runs are never about speed—they’re about enjoying the route and the company—and this one hit the mark perfectly.
Through Four Lanes and Down We Go
From Beacon and Bollenoe, it was on towards Four Lanes before the fun really began: a long downhill stretch leading into South Wheal Frances. With the sun out and the pace picking up, the group enjoyed a well-earned “weeeeeeee” moment on the descent—proof that even grown-ups know how to make the most of a downhill!
Flat Lode Finish and Croust Stop
The loop continued along the Flat Lode Trail, one of the club’s favourite routes thanks to its history, open views and friendly terrain. After ticking off the miles, the group rounded things off back at the Croust Hut (Cornish for a snack!) before heading home.
Why These Runs Matter
Sessions like this show what the Carn Runners Weekend Socials are all about. Whether it’s Saturday or Sunday, it’s less about chasing times and more about friendship, fitness and fun. Hills tackled together feel easier, downhills shared are more joyful, and the miles pass quickly when you’re chatting with friends.
Thanks to everyone who came along for this week’s outing. Another great reminder that the best runs aren’t just about the miles—they’re about the people you share them with.
