Carn Runners enjoyed another lovely morning of shared miles on Saturday 22 August, with this week’s Saturday Social heading towards one of Cornwall’s most distinctive landmarks: Gwennap Pit.

The group covered eight miles on a route offering a little bit of everything. There was plenty of sunshine, welcome stretches of shade and enough hills to make sure everyone knew they had been out for a run by the time the morning was over.

A beautiful route for a social run

Gwennap Pit made a memorable destination for the morning’s outing, with the surrounding countryside providing an attractive backdrop for the club’s weekend miles.

It certainly wasn’t a flat route, but the climbs were all part of the experience. Taken at a social pace and in good company, the hills helped create a rewarding eight-mile run rather than turning the morning into a race.

The changing conditions were also very welcome. Sunny sections brought a proper summer feel to the outing, while the shade offered some relief along the way. Together, they made for a varied and thoroughly enjoyable route.

Saturday Social miles at their best

Runs like this are a reminder that a good morning out does not need race numbers, finish lines or official results. Sometimes it is simply about exploring a lovely local route, tackling a few hills and enjoying the miles together.

This weekend’s outing followed in the same spirit as our other Saturday Social runs, where conversation, company and a shared love of running matter just as much as the distance covered.

Eight hilly miles, a mixture of sunshine and shade, and a beautiful Cornish destination made this a very good way to begin the weekend.

Keep an eye out for details of future Carn Runners social outings and more opportunities to explore Cornwall in good company.
