Carn Runners Sunday Social – Lanner Start, Carn Marth Views, Gwennap Pit and Amy’s For Refreshments!
Sunday 20 July 2025 gave us one of those runs that reminds you why joining a Cornwall running club is about far more than training plans. A cheerful group of Carn Runners gathered at the Lanner Band Hut at the top of Lanner Hill for our latest Sunday Social—a relaxed 5.5-miler with a loose plan: head up, explore, re-group often, and enjoy the company. Job done.
Rolling Start, Straight Into a Climb
We set off steady, warming the legs before tipping onto the climb that leads towards Carn Marth. If you’ve not run it before, Carn Marth gives classic mid-Cornwall rewards: open moorland feel, mine heritage in the landscape, and long views when the weather plays ball. We’d eyed the forecast, but the rain held off. Spirits lifted. Layers were shed. Conversation flowed.
Trails, Tracks & Pick-Your-Line Running
Because this was an unstructured social, pace took a back seat. We regrouped at natural pauses—gates, track junctions, and the higher ground—so nobody was left hanging. Terrain mixed in nicely: stony tracks, short grassy sections, runnable trail, and a few lumps that nudged the heart rate without turning it into a suffer-fest. Perfect Sunday miles for runners easing back after racing, newer members building confidence, or anyone who just wanted to get out without pressure.
Dropping Through to Gwennap Pit
From the heights we rolled down towards Gwennap Pit, the famous open-air, terraced amphitheatre linked to John Wesley’s preaching. Whether you’re there for the history, the view, or the novelty of jogging through such a distinctive landmark, it always delivers a moment. Quick photos. Quick laugh. Quick head count. Onward.
Friendly Faces, Easy Miles
One of the best things about our Social runs is how easy it is to chat. People who met at the club now share races, lifts, and training tips. New runners get welcomed in without fuss. Those returning from injury can dip in and test the legs. That mix of encouragement and belonging is what keeps the club vibrant.
Sweet Finish at Amy’s
A welcome visit to Amy’s for post-run treats. Tea, bites, and a place to sit—it turned a good run into a great morning. These little touches matter. They build connection, keep people coming back, and make joining a running club feel less intimidating to newcomers.
Thinking of Joining Us?
If you’re local to Lanner, Redruth, Camborne, or the wider mid-Cornwall area and want to get fitter, meet people, or explore local trails like Carn Marth and Gwennap Pit, come along to a future Carn Runners Sunday Social. We regroup often, keep things friendly, and welcome all paces. First-timers can try a few sessions before joining officially—no pressure.
See you next Sunday?
