Susan Takes on the Torbay Half Marathon
Half marathons always demand determination, but running one after weeks of interrupted training takes true grit. This weekend, Susan represented Carn Runners at the Torbay Half Marathon, showing resilience and commitment to complete the course despite recent setbacks.
Overcoming Injury Challenges
In the weeks leading up to the race, Susan had only been able to run once in five weeks due to a troublesome calf strain. For many, this would have meant pulling out altogether, but Susan decided to lace up and give it her best shot.
Her time on the day may not have been her fastest, but the achievement wasn’t about the clock — it was about proving to herself that she could still tackle 13.1 miles and cross that finish line.
A Scenic South Devon Course
The Torbay Half Marathon is well known for its scenic route, starting and finishing on the Paignton seafront before heading along the picturesque coastline to Torquay and back. With stunning sea views but a course that includes a few testing climbs, it’s a race that balances beauty with challenge.
Running along the English Riviera with the sound of the sea nearby is an experience to savour, and for Susan, it was a reminder of why we run — not just for times, but for the joy of taking part.
Onwards and Upwards
After finishing, Susan summed up her run with her trademark positivity:
“Not the best time, but then I’ve only run once in the last 5 weeks due to a calf strain! Onwards and upwards!!”
It’s this mindset that defines the Carn Runners spirit — focusing on progress, celebrating the effort, and always looking forward to the next challenge.
Congratulations to Susan for completing the Torbay Half Marathon under difficult circumstances. A true example of resilience and determination, and proof that sometimes simply finishing the race is the biggest victory of all. 💛💙
