The Carn colours were back on display over the Tamar as Wayne, Dennis, Janet and Peter travelled to Devon for the Totnes 10K.
It was another race ticked off for Wayne, while our regular Devon travellers Dennis and Janet were joined by Peter for a scenic but challenging outing alongside the River Dart.
The race began and finished in Borough Park in Totnes and followed a predominantly off-road route through the surrounding countryside. Although it retains the Totnes 10K name, changes made following erosion mean the current course is actually closer to 11 kilometres—giving everyone a little extra running for their entry fee!
Wayne Ticks Off Another 10K
A big well done goes to Wayne, who added another 10K event to his growing collection.
Each race provides a slightly different experience, and Totnes certainly offered plenty of variety. Rather than a straightforward road course, runners faced mixed terrain, tracks and paths as the route made its way beside the River Dart.
Wayne continues to build his racing experience and regularly represents the club at events across Cornwall and beyond. Another finish line crossed means another achievement to celebrate—and a few more hard-earned miles in the legs.

Familiar Faces Over the Border
Joining Wayne were Dennis, Janet and Peter, who are certainly no strangers to travelling into Devon for a race.
Dennis and Janet have become regular representatives of the club at events across the county, recently taking on races including the Otter Rail and River Run and the Cornwood Challenge. This time, Peter joined them for another enjoyable Carn road trip.
It is always brilliant to see our members exploring different events around the South West. Every race brings a new route, a different atmosphere and another opportunity to proudly wear the yellow and blue.
The Totnes event has built a strong reputation for its friendly atmosphere and scenic course. Organised by Teignbridge Trotters, it starts and finishes at Borough Park, with most of the route following off-road paths beside the River Dart.
A Little More Than Bargained For
Anyone expecting exactly 10 kilometres may have noticed their watch ticking a little beyond the usual finishing distance.
The organisers have openly acknowledged that the permanent revised route is now approximately 11K, following changes originally required because of erosion. The revised course has proved popular, however, and retains the varied and scenic character for which the event is known.
That extra kilometre may not sound like much before the start, but it can feel rather more noticeable when the legs are expecting the finish line!
Nevertheless, Wayne, Dennis, Janet and Peter all completed the challenge and ensured Carn Runners were once again well represented away from home.
Another Great Team Outing
While races naturally provide opportunities to chase times and test fitness, trips like this are also about enjoying the experience together.
Travelling to a race with clubmates, sharing the pre-race anticipation and comparing stories afterwards are all part of what makes club running so rewarding. Whether someone is tackling a distance for the first time or returning to another familiar event, having fellow Carnies alongside them makes the day even more enjoyable.
The four runners continued a busy weekend for the club, with Carn vests appearing at events both inside and outside Cornwall.
Well Done, Team!
A huge well done to Wayne, Dennis, Janet and Peter for completing the Totnes 10K—or perhaps we should say the Totnes 11K!
