Carn Runners colours have been appearing away from the usual local routes again, with club members enjoying two very different outings. One involved swapping a regular Saturday format for sand, while the other produced a completely unplanned meeting between two Carnies far from home.

The Webbs swap parkrun for a beach race

There was no parkrun for the Webbs this week. Instead, they entered a 7.5k beach race with a simple but distinctive course: straight out along the beach and then back again, with the whole route run on sand.

An entirely sandy course made this a clear change from the surfaces normally encountered at parkrun. The straightforward out-and-back design also meant there was no complicated route to follow—the beach itself defined the course from the start through to the return journey.

Beyond the unusual setting, the event stood out for its great atmosphere and excellent value. Entry cost only €10 and even included a T-shirt, making it a memorable alternative to the Webbs’ usual parkrun outing.

A surprise Carn Runners meeting in Worcester

Elsewhere, James travelled to Worcester to take part in Pitchcroft parkrun. What he did not expect was to find another Carn Runner there.

Fellow Carnie Tori had independently chosen the same parkrun. Neither runner knew that the other would be attending, so their meeting was a genuine coincidence rather than a planned club trip.

It was one of those moments that shows how easily running paths can cross. James and Tori had both travelled to the same event, on the same morning, without arranging to meet—and still managed to find a familiar Carn Runners face at Pitchcroft.

The chance encounter adds another destination to the club’s growing collection of away-day stories. Readers who enjoy following the club’s travels can also catch up with more Carn Runners parkrun tourism from Monmouth, Glasgow and Bath.

Different runs, shared Carnie spirit

A beach race and a Worcester parkrun may have offered very different experiences, but both outings carried the Carnies on Tour theme. For the Webbs, the change brought an all-sand race with a lively atmosphere and good-value entry. For James and Tori, it brought the surprise of discovering that another club member had picked exactly the same parkrun.
