David Breaks Free – 41-Mile Epic at the Dartmoor Prison Break
Now this is one for the memory books! Over the weekend, David Vaughan took on the Dartmoor Prison Break Felon Event—a self-navigated, unsupported 24-hour challenge starting from HMP Dartmoor.
Setting off at midday Saturday, David covered an incredible 41 miles as the crow flies, navigating rough moorland, tricky terrain, and some seriously mixed weather conditions. This wasn’t your typical race—it was a test of endurance, resilience, and survival instincts (with a healthy dose of humour thrown in).
Along the way, David slept in a field, got lost in the dark, and spotted more sheep than he could count. But perhaps the best part? The amazing people he met throughout the challenge who helped keep the spirits high and the legs moving.
After 22 hours on the move, his feet finally called time—but not before completing a huge effort worthy of serious respect. A massive thank you goes out to Sue and Talan for supporting from the sidelines and for the much-needed laugh via video mid-challenge!
Rest those feet, David—you’ve absolutely earned it. What a phenomenal effort and an unforgettable story to tell.
