Harlyn Bay Half Marathon & 10K – Coastal Classics and One-Armed Stile Hopping!
This weekend, Carn Runners were out in force again—this time represented by Sarah C and Janet W at the Harlyn Bay Half Marathon and 10K, an off-road favourite on the Cornish running calendar. With both runners taking on their respective distances, the day offered everything we love about summer races: coastal air, blue skies, friendly faces, and a few unexpected obstacles along the way.
A Coastal Route Worth the Climb
The route followed the stunning South West Coast Path, heading from Harlyn Bay to Padstow and back. With dramatic cliff-top views, gentle undulations, and dry trails underfoot, it was a dream course for those who love their races scenic and slightly rugged. The dry weather meant conditions were ideal—not too hot, not too slippery—just that perfect summer balance that brings out your best running form.
Friendly Vibes and Well-Run Organisation
Both runners were full of praise for how smoothly the event was organised. From the friendly marshals to the clear signage and relaxed start-line atmosphere, it had all the makings of a classic Cornish race. Events like this show just how strong the local running scene is, with clubs, solo runners, and newcomers all mingling in the sunshine for a shared love of trail running.
A Stile Challenge… With Style
A special mention must go to Janet, who tackled the course with one arm out of action—no small feat when you’ve got stone stiles to leap over en route! While some runners may dread hills, it turns out Cornish stiles are just as tricky, especially when they’re uneven and demand a bit of creative scrambling. Janet took it all in good humour, proving once again that determination (and a bit of laughter) can carry you through just about anything.
More Than a Medal
Beyond the miles, what stood out for Sarah and Janet was the companionship—sharing the course, encouraging each other, and soaking up the buzz of a well-supported event. These moments are what turn a regular run into a memorable race day.
Well done to both of you—another pair of medals earned and another great day out flying the Carn Runners colours!
