Janet Returns to the Templer Ten
Another day, another adventure for Carn Runners — and this time it was Janet and Dennis heading over the border into Devon for the Templer Ten, a well-loved multi-terrain 10-mile race organised by the Teignbridge Trotters in Newton Abbot.
This race is a favourite among South West runners thanks to its friendly atmosphere, scenic course, and signature mix of road, trail, woodland, and canal paths. It’s the sort of race that challenges your legs and rewards your spirit in equal measure — and Janet rose to the occasion beautifully.
A Return Ten Years in the Making
For Janet, this wasn’t just any race — it was a return to a familiar course after ten years. A decade since her last Templer Ten, she laced up again with the same drive and enthusiasm she’s known for in the club.
Conditions were good on the day — mild autumn sunshine, a light breeze, and just enough mud to remind everyone this was no road race. The route, a blend of quiet lanes and trails through the Newton Abbot countryside, gave runners a little bit of everything: open stretches to find rhythm, shaded sections through woodland, and a few punchy climbs to keep things interesting.
A Strong Run and a Podium Finish
Janet showed exactly why she’s such an inspiration within the club, running a controlled and confident race to claim 3rd place in her age group. Her consistency, pacing, and grit shone through, proving experience really does count.
Dennis, meanwhile, was on hand for full support duties — cheering, snapping photos, and, by his own admission, sampling the cake and coffee instead of the course! While he had to sit this one out, he was the perfect race companion, making sure Janet got the celebration she deserved at the finish line.
Community Spirit and Classic Race Day Touches
True to Teignbridge Trotters tradition, the event was friendly, well-organised, and full of charm. From smiling marshals to post-race hot dogs and homemade cakes, it captured everything that makes local running events so special. Runners swapped stories, compared muddy legs, and tucked into well-earned treats while the organisers handed out prizes and applause.
Events like the Templer Ten remind us why club running is so rewarding — not just for the competition, but for the camaraderie and the community that surrounds it.
A Well-Earned Reward
After a brilliant morning of racing, Janet and Dennis rounded off their day with a Sunday roast at Buckfast Abbey, a perfect way to refuel and reflect on a successful outing. Good food, good company, and a strong run — the ideal finish to a race weekend.
Congratulations, Janet, on another fantastic result and for representing Carn Runners so proudly once again. And Dennis — your dedication to coffee, cake, and support duty is top-tier. Here’s to more adventures, both on and off the course! 💛💙
