It was a massive day of training for three Carn Runners as Josh, Steve and James took on some seriously big miles between Carnkie and Penzance.
This wasn’t a race. No medals. No finish gantry. No crowd-lined streets.
Just a proper endurance effort, strong company and the kind of training run that says a lot about where the legs — and the mindset — are at.
Josh Completes His First Ultra-Distance Run
The biggest shout-out of the day goes to Josh, who completed his first-ever ultra-distance run, covering a huge 31 miles, or 50K, from Carnkie to Penzance.
That is a massive milestone.
Moving beyond marathon distance is a big step for any runner. It takes patience, pacing, fuelling, mental strength and the ability to keep going long after the point where most people would be more than ready to stop.
Josh took it all in his stride and handled the distance brilliantly.
With his solo Classic Quarter challenge coming up in just three weeks, this was a huge confidence boost and a brilliant sign that he is in fantastic shape for what lies ahead.
Steve Goes the Full 50K Too
Alongside Josh, Steve also completed the full 31-mile route, making it an incredible training day for both runners.
Long runs like this are never just about ticking off distance. They are about testing kit, nutrition, pacing, route confidence and how the body responds when the miles really start to build.
To complete 50K in training is a serious effort, and both Josh and Steve deserve huge credit for taking on such a demanding run.
James Adds Another Huge Effort
As if that wasn’t enough, James joined the group for 21 miles of the route — an incredible effort in its own right.
Even more impressive, he did it after already refereeing a tough rugby match on Saturday and logging 10 miles on Friday evening.
That is some weekend of activity.
It’s fair to say there was a fair bit of gluttony for punishment going on, but also a lot of strength, consistency and determination.
Perfect Classic Quarter Preparation
For Josh in particular, this run was excellent preparation for the Classic Quarter, one of Cornwall’s iconic endurance challenges.
Running long point-to-point miles, managing effort over time and staying strong late into the run are all key parts of preparing for a solo ultra-distance event.
A 50K training run from Carnkie to Penzance is exactly the kind of effort that builds both physical fitness and mental belief.
A Huge Effort All Round
Massive congratulations to Josh, Steve and James for a brilliant day of training.
A first ultra-distance run for Josh, a full 50K for Steve, and 21 hard-earned miles for James after an already packed weekend — outstanding efforts all round.
The Classic Quarter is getting closer, and if this run is anything to go by, Josh is looking in great shape for the challenge ahead.
Well done all 👏💙💛
